Hi my 2 yo has white patches on his tongue, only noticed it last night after he had been eating some chewy sweets and just put it down to that, but today its still the same. It does'nt seem to be bothering him at all and he is eating and drinking normally. I'm still breasfeeding him and he has no problems with this either. I spoke to my HV today and she suggested thrush, i thought it was only babies and adults that got oral thrush and that it was unusual in a toddler. I dont have any discomfort while feeding so don't think i have it.

He has just got over a viral type thing, cough, temperature and very runny nose so maybe there is a connection there.

Just wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom, thanks.

I was going to say oral thrush too. Maybe see a pharmasist or Dr for advice.

My first thought would be thrush too.

ALl ages get thrush, though like you I would have expected discomfort if he is bfing.

It may be that he just haasn't quite passed it on to you yet.

The virus might have brought it on - I get it if I am ill.

thank you both for your replies, my HV said she is coming to do his 2 year check up on Friday and that she would have a look then. But maybe i should see a pharmacist before then, would they not just tell me to take him to the gp though or would they be able to diagnose oral thrush?

Not sure - they might want a GP diagnosis as it is a wee one.
Could you get an appointment soonish?
