6 month DS with nasty runny bum and vomiting (and a reflux sufferer!) - advice please

Hi there

DS seems to have caught a nasty tummy bug from one of his playmates. He started off with lose stools on Saturday morning, and then did projectile vomiting on Saturday night, bringing up all his dinner. (DS is on 3 solid meals a day, and also suffers with reflux).

He has now gone off his food, and I am struggling to get anything down him. I am desperate to get rice, toast and apple down him as I have been told this is fabulous for D & V. He is still drinking his formula, and I am also giving him loads of water as well.... but needless to say everything he has he just refluxes or it shoots out the other end (sorry!!)

Has anyone else got any other tips. He is still in good spirits, but I am worried that he is getting dehydrated.... I am keeping an eye on his fontanel, etc. Should I get him some Dyralite (sp?)?

Help...I am up to my neck in vomit and yucky nappies!

x

... and should I also cut down the amount of dairy he has (such as yoghurt and cheese?)

My DS2 had reflux, i was told to stop solids and give him water to prevent dehydration.
what meds is he on?
DO NOT give dyralite let it run its course.

He isn't on any meds yet....

I am going over to docs this afternoon for myself for something else, so I will ask them what they think.

He is also getting his top teeth with just makes everything that much more fun!!

How long did it take for your DS2's bug to clear up Ness?

I second taking him to the GP to check his is not dehydrated.

To stop the vomiting bascially get the natural flavour dyoralite and mix it with a fairly strong solution squash (with the sugar - he will need the calories) syringe 5ml every 10 mins and then if starts to keep this down give a little more.

DS2 has reflux and we went through hell when he caught the winter vomiting bug. The above paragraph is the advice from the hospital and it worked.

Nix

My dd has just suffered with this and we ended up in A&E on sat night with dehydration, weight loss and really fatigued. Just slept all day and night and puked up everything.

Give him Dioralyte please!

This was thier advice, (though i had already started her on it an hour before)

Keep him drinking his milk.

Give him small amounts of water and dioralyte every ten min. About 10ml. You can get a syringe and do it this way.

Keep giving the solution even if he vomits, as something will get through. It will help replace all lost salts and glucose.

You dont need to starve him, but give him small amounts every so often.

DD is now on the mend after a week of diarrhea and 48hrs of sickness. Shes eating again now but still off her milk. Im just making sure she drinks as much as poss.

You should give children up to the age of 1, 1- 1 and a half times thier daily fluid intake and add the dioralyte to 70z of water.

Get the blackcurrent flavour as the juice may make him feel sick. Too much sugar can make sickness worse.
