Could this be slapped cheek ?

My toodler has been off colour for several days. Starting with cold like symptoms, very bunged up and complaining about sore throat. We have had a couple days of running poo, none today so far and she has a slight fever, complaining about her stomach and knees/back hurting. She is very sleeply and has bright red cheeks and she did have a small about of rash on her bottom yesterday which I assumed was linked to the poo issue.

I have already seeked advice via local pharmacy (i.e. Give calipol and lemon in hot water with honey for sore throat) and spoke to a nurse at our doctors on the phone, who said it sounded cold like and ditto calipol etc. I can't get an appointment at the doctors until next week at the earliest.

But my DH has just mentioned that Slapped Cheek is going around the schools at the moment. We did visit a nursery last week, could this be more than a cold.

If it is slapped cheek, google says she just needs to stay away from pregnant ladies and rest, does that sound right ?

I don't want to PFB over her but likewise don't want to ignore this if I shouldn't be.

Plus I am meant to be going to a big family bash tomorrow (don't think any pregnant ladies will be there) and I am meant to be leaving her with my dad one day next week for a course, which I really don't want to miss but unwilling to leave ill toddler with her grandfather if she needs me

Oh she is barely eating but as she is a nursing toddler that is not too much of a problem. Not that we are good examples of breastfeeding = less illness. This her second illness this year !!!

If it is slapped cheek then once the rash is out they are no longer contagious. My sisters 2 boys have it at the moment so I am waiting for my lo's to get it too.

slapped cheek syndrome

Is the rash only on cheeks (and bottom). Any anywhere else? armpits? groin? is it flat or raised at all?

Her red cheeks is a flat red, not a raised rash.

Yesterday she had what I thought was nappy rash on her bottom and that was half a dozen raised red spots, which I treated with white nappy cream.

Slapped cheek sounds most likely then as I think that most other infectious rashes affect other parts of the body. Adults can also suffer joint pains - which you mention.

the hpa advise that no quarantine is necessary as far as childcare is concerned. As you point out though there are concerns if passed on to a pg woman who is not immune.

We only visited a nursery for a visit, DD is home with me full time. I just think that is where she has got it from.

She has been on the sofa all day, sleeping, crying and nursing...poor baby lamb. I am so grateful we are still nursing, she won't eat but as long as she nurses I know she'll get the nutrition she needs.

Her baby brother has rosy cheeks too but doesn't seem ill (thank goodness), so I am plumping that he is teething.

I think I will cancel tomorrows family party and hopefully she will be better in a couple of days time.
