Slapped Cheek??

Dd is 5mo and has a bad cold, is teething and has a barking cough.

I took her to the Doctors today and he said she is fine and nothing to worry about.

Anyway, her cheeks are bright red and someone at my Grans nursing home said 'oh, she has slapped cheek'.

What is it? I have put her red cheeks down to the fact she is teething and the doctor didnt say anything.

as far as i remember it's an odd expression meant to describe the red look of a baby's cheek with some kind of a virus or rash or when teething. doesn't mean you (or anyone) has slapped the baby. old expression, i think. don't worry.

It's called Parvo(sp?) virus...basically it is a very infectious but usually harmless virus. Only need to be aware that it can be harmful when exposed to pregnant women. Virus shows up bright red cheeks when it is on its way out (looks like you have been slapped in the cheeks).
By the time the rash appears on the face the hcild is no longer infectious, so can be difficult to keep away from pg ladies when you don't realise you have it iykwim.

Oh and nearly all children have it at some stage and by doing so become immune to catching it again (like with chicken pox)
