It is a very serious issue but not exactly surprising that it exists considering the amount of obese adults in the UK.

Contentious issue!

Unless your child has a medical condition which causes them to gain weight there is no acceptable reason for a child to be obese. It the parent/guardian who is responsible for what they eat and how much activity the child does.

I understand it is complex and every child should be allowed to enjoy treats but personally I think children who are obese due to bad diets and a sedentary lifestyle are infact facing a form of neglect.

I'm sure I'll face a backlash but that is my opinion.

I think it is the food and the habits.

For us, French, is it inconceivable to eat crisps on a regular basis. It is party food, so birthday and aperitifs. Not something you would eat every week or worse everyday.
Homemade food is not equal to healthy food. A homemade pizza can reach over 2000 calories. Ditto spaghettis, pies, etc.... Everything has liters of sauces on it, even the salads.
We do not eat in the street. We do not snack all day long. After school we may have a croissant or piece of cake and that's it until the 7.30pm dinner.

Now that in live in Australia, I am so puzzled by what is considered healthy. For me it's junk food (cheesie, frozos, pizza, wedges, bbq sausage....).

This: How can the kids expect to eat healthy at home when mom and dad live in Mcdonalds?
It's pathetic. Severe lack of education.

a dr. once told me one the best things you can ever do for your children is to never let them get fat. An obese child is condemed to a life of obesity in most cases.
There is no way a child should be obese......no excuse at all. Yet, it's accepted. One of the biggest forms of childhood abuse ever and yet nothing is done about it.
I feel really sorry for obese children. Through freckless parenting they are going to miss out on so much of what is good in childhood. And probably be condemmed to a life of misery and early death. How is that good parenting? Still, nothing surprises me these days. People seem to be getting more and more stupid.
