DS 2 week rule referral -scared :(

DS is 18 so technically not childrens health but hes still my baby so hope i am ok posting here. He has been complaining of a 'lump' in his abdomen (he's very skinny so can easily feel it) and some rectal bleeding, was initially diagnosed with an anal fissure whuch explained the bleeding and the GP thought the lump was due to constipation so prescribed some lactulose and hoped that would shift it. After 4 weeks of to and fro I rang the doc and insisted on a referral so they sent a routine gastroenterology referral. After chatting to some friends who are HCP we decided to ask whether a lump should not be referred under the 2 week rule, especially with the bleeding, but the GP was reluctant due to his age saying that bowel cancer is very rare in his sge group.
This week, though, he has found another lump in his neck so we wentkback to see another GP who has upgraded the referral. In her words she said that although colon cancer is rare in his age group, lymphoma is much more common :(.
Scared now, anybody had a similar experience? Any advice/reassurances?

Get back on to your GP. You don't feel right about this. That's reason enough to ask for an urgent referral.
I hope it all turns out to be nothing to worry about.
But, if you don't feel the wheels are moving quickly enough, don't be afraid to call the secretary of the consultant you have been referred to and talk to them.

Thanks for the replies. DS has a consultant appointment on Friday morning so at least they have started to take us seriously. Hopefully it'll be nothing but at least he's being seen quickly

And don't be afraid to take him to A&E either, especially next time he has blood in the loo. A&E diagnose more cases of scary diseases than GPs do.

God luck on Friday. Good for you for sticking up for yourself. Don't be scared to get assertive! Channel your worries into action.

MASSIVE MASSIVE HUGS to you and your lovely DS.

Well it seemed to go ok this morning, they didnt seem to think it was anything sinister but agreed that it needed investigating so he had some bloods taken today and is going back tomorrow morning for a flexible sigmoidoscopy (bless him he has to self administer an enema at home at 7.30 tomorrow morning, hes not even usually conscious at that time on a staurday morning!). He will also be getting an ultrasound of his abdomen in the next couple of weeks and if anything shows up on either of those tests then they'll send him for a CT scan.

Thanks so much whats I'm glad too :) its lovely to have some support on here, I havent told any family as DS doesnt want anybody fussing so only DP and my boss knows in RL (I had to tell her as I needed time off at short notice)

From what the doctor was saying yesterday I think they are considering Crohns disease as DS is very thin (bmi about 17) and has had a lot of mouth ulcers as well as the anal fissure so thats the next thing for me to worry about
