My boy is mad on the Alex Rider books, but just discovered they may not be that suitable for him, he's nearly 8.

Do you know of any other similar books that he can try?
He's moved on from the Roal Dahl, horrid henry types and will be reading the Agent Z books soon, any more?

Anthony Horowitz has done lots of other series which are aimed at younger readers - have a look on Amazon.

Grk series usually gets recommended here too.

Oh, and haven't done it ourselves, but Spy Dog usually gets a mention too.

out of interest what is the problem with the Alex Rider books ?Just asked my boys (13 and 8) who say that if they are not suitable then none of those type of spy books will be..There are also 'young bond' books and cherub ones i think are a bit more grown up with a bit of 'sex talk' in.

I think it's quite difficult to find good boy's fiction for an able young reader. The Alex Riders are aimed more at 10/11 year olds although I don't think there is too much unsuitable for a 7 year old. My 10 year old DS2 enjoyed them when he was younger .

I find most books for his age are aimed at girls , about football or fantasy. Narrows it down if you don't like these.
A good series are the Caroline Lawrence Roman mysteries.Eoin Colfer " Artemis Fowl" series were popular with my DS1

He's read the Chris Ryan children's books which contain swearing and violence but I decided to let him read them as he's a sensible boy. However I had to stop him reading the C.H.R.U.B series as they were frightening him.
