Books DS2 (2.2 yrs) likes a lot at the minute include

Janet and Allan Ahlberg - The Baby's Catalogue, Each Peach Pear Plum, Peepo
Julia Donaldson - A Squash and a Squeeze
We're Going on a Bear Hunt
Goodnight Tractor

He also likes books featuring favourite TV characters like Thomas the Tank Engine and In The Night Garden books, and lift the flap books, although he's not very gentle with the flaps yet.

Thank you. DD isn't very gentle with flaps either, most have been sellotaped back into the books!

He's a huge 18 year old now but DS1 loved Dear Zoo. I can still repeat all of it now! Also the Bartholemew Bear books.

A bit lost, by Chris Haughton. My favourite modern book. Plus the rest of his are worth a look.

Bear hunt and Each Peach are popular. I like the Gruffalo. The toddler likes Topsy and Tim but they are deathly boring.

DS1 was obsessed with the gruffalo. We had to have it every night from the age of 18 months to 4 years. I can still recite it now.
DD will be 2 in a few days. She loves the smartest giant in town. She's not as obsessive over it as DS1 was over the gruffalo
DS2 is 18 weeks and just loves hearing me talk and he tries to grab the its not my books when I'm reading with his sister and hes meant to be feeding. Hmm Grin

My DSs are having a digger/truck phase so it's all
Dig Dig Digging
Pirates Don't Drive Diggers
Goodnight Digger
Digger & Skip
You get the picture...!

She actually loves diggers/lorries/buses and animals so I think a lot of these would go down well. I've got The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark for Xmas, I can't wait to read it, it was a childhood favourite for me!
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Dig dig digging is a huge favourite, it has a nice rhythm to it and ends with them all going to sleep.

We recently had a friend recommend Please Mr Panda. It's very weird but if you have a quirky sense of humor it's fab and DD loves it...

Barry the Fish with Fingers is also a firm favourite...

HoggleHoggle · 10/12/2015 12:13

I also like Please Mr Panda. Definitely weird, but funny.

Sue Hendra books - No-Bot, Barry The Fish with Fingers etc.

Huge hits.

Also, an older one, Tikki-Tikki Tembo - they love the rhythm of it and are hugely amused that I can rattle off the whole name without looking at the book - it's woven into normal conversation quite regularly Grin

Another good thought for toddler bedtime stories are good quality personalised books. A friend recommended a website amazingpages.co.uk which do really nice books that you can personalise with a photo and make the story all about them. DD really loves hers and asks for it all the time! Also, you can't go wrong with Julia Donaldson. Paper Dolls is a beautiful book!

DD loves Hide and Seek Pig and Postman Bear, both are nice lift the flap books and not too long.
