Posted a long rambly thread that got eaten. Long story short:

DD has seen me reading on my kindle and wants to know if there are any ebooks for her age. I'm struggling to find any (library offering is a grand total of 12, classics or pre-teen books mainly).

Any recommendations/sources?

She's a good reader for her age, but not at the Harry Potter/BFG stage yet.

She's been happily reading the Horrid Henry books recently.

Am willing to pay for ebooks, although not a lot as she goes through them quite fast like mother like daughter but obviously some free ones (or a reasonable subscription service) would be good.

She has access to a hudl2, that she would be using for reading.

Any suggestions? Or places to start looking?

Project Gutenberg has all the Oz books and loads of France Hodgeson Burnett (the secret garden, a little princess, etc.) amongst its thousands of possibilities. www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

Oh, in case you haven't heard of it, Project Gutenberg's books are all out of copyright texts which they make available for free.

Dd loves Daisy and the trouble with books, I think you can those on kindle. I think some of the dick king smith books are on kindle too.

Yes, I know Project Gutenberg. I'd kind of assumed that the classics would be too difficult for her (I was a very early reader, so the books I loved at her age, she isn't quite ready for, so I'm a bit stumped as to what to recommend). I'll have a look around the Project Gutenberg site though and maybe give her a go with a few - I may have underestimated her. (Worst case scenario, I'll find stuff to read to her instead Grin)

When I was on the Oxford Owl website, they said you can get free children's e-books if you register as a parent.

Mariella Mystery books are available on kindle - they're good fun. Low threat mystery stories - glowing guinea pig; bake off scam.

My dd is a similar age and she likes:

Agatha Parrot series
Little House on the Prairie series
Diary of a wimpy kid books
Guinea pig online books
Ramona books (these are American)
Usborne books about Hercules, Cleopatra, Marie Antoinette etc... - there are various reading levels available
Ballerina books by Darcy Bussell (but she bored of these quickly!)

We've only just started down the ebook route so not sure which are available.

Best of all are the Ottoline books but you HAVE to get these in hardback as they're gorgeousWink.

this series are all available as ebooks. They are adventure/ mystery stories, aimed at that age group.

If you are giving her a longer 'harder' book, try turning the text size up. It made all the difference for my DD.
