Detective/Adventure stories for DD (9)

Can anyone suggest good detective/adventure stories for my DD? She is a capable reader, although not the most enthusiastic. She is very keen on Jacqueline Wilson and we are trying to find different types of books that she may also enjoy. DH likes to read to her and is quite old-fashioned in his taste! We wonder if there is a up-dated version of something like Nancy Drew, Swallows and Amazons or Enid Blyton's The Five Find-Outers??? Thanks.

My DS likes the Laura Marlin series,Helen Moss Adventure Island series and Lauren Child's Ruby Redfort books. London Eye Mystery.

Obviously Enid Blyton wrote shed loads(think DS has red them all).

Alphabet Glue has a whole e magazine on detective stories with book lists.

the Lady Grace Mysteries by Grace Cavendish - these are the ones I saw. Not seen them in reality myself as my girls are too young but people mentioned them on here the other day as well www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&productId=315295&categoryId=85207

Roman Mysteries were loved by dd1 at about 8/9yo, she also liked Three Investigator, and Lone Pine (Malcolm Saville)

The New Nancy Drews I thought were poor when I looked at them. They're written in the first person now and have an awful lot of her thoughts about boys, (generally "isn't he cute" type) fashion and stuff that they think "girls" would like to know which imo made the book much more about her and less about the mystery.

really? oh thats a shame. I was hoping they just meant updated as in has a mobile phone, ipad and so on not completely changed. I think it is such a shame that they are obsessed with all children needing to be reading about boys or violence all the time. what happened to just nice normal books?

The original Five Find Outer books are a big hit with DS1 whos 9. He also likes the "Barney" books - Ragamuffin Mystery, Ring o Bells Mystery etc also by Enid Blyton.

Does any-one remember the Black Hand Gang? Where you had to find things/clues on each page?

spy dog (easy to read for a 9yo)
astrosaurs academy

Nancy Drew was awesome - I loved that series ... also a school series called trebizon. however, I digress Blush

Harry potter, first three at least?
ds2 is in y4 and reading Alex rider books, don't know if that's more boyish?

has anyone said lemony snicket - a series of unfortunate events?

DS 9 currently reading The Pickle King( v good reviews) which he is loving but it has a body in it.He is a wuss though (found Lemony Snickett too scary)so it can't be that bad.

Dd1 loved Alex Rider, but it is quite a step up in content from Enid Blyton. Dd2 finds them way too scary.
