Something like Artemis Fowl

Does anyone have any suggestions of books in a similar style to Artemis Fowl for dd1 age 9?

She has read all the usual Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc and just trying to find something else.

She likes science fiction/fantasy and historical.

My ds loved the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage, fantasy, wizardy stuff.

My daughter (just turned 11) seems to like anything by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell - eg the Edge Chronicles - we seem to have amassed a huge pile of them (mostly from Oxfam luckily - we seem to be following in the wake of some lucky child who collected signed hard back copies and keeps donating them!).

Also, there is a series by Chris Mount, including the Icy Hand - which seems to be popular - and we liked Frozen in Time by Ali Sparkes - we all found this v readable - and I noticed that she has written quite a few others that we might try.

And my daughter demolished all the Percy Jacksons by Rick Riordan, although, having tolerated reading a few chapters aloud to her, I must admit that I can't see the appeal myself - but they certainly seemed to go down well - I think it takes a certain kind of child to like all of these books - none of them really appeal to me, except perhaps the Ali Sparkes - and my eldest daughter wouldn't have thanked you for any of them, although she read and enjoyed all the Artemis Fowls. Who can tell...

Not like Artemis Fowl, but has she tried Inkheart? Or is that a bit heavy going? I love Cornelia Funk and have just read Reckless, the new novel she's set in a completely new world.

How about the How to train your dragon books? Or Diary of a Wimpy Kid as a change from the sci-fiction?

My dd has also just read some historical vicious viking villain books (I think that's what they were called). She also like the Roman Mysteries.
