Scary book for a 2.6 year old?

DD is currently enjoying "Class 2 at the Zoo", where a snake swallows the class and the teacher, although they are all rescued at the end.

My mother has raised concerns about the scary nature of this book; DD seems to enjoy it, and asks for it often, but is this masking some terrible damage we're inadvertently doing to the poor child...?

No, as long as she enjoys it.

I've often thought this about the lady that swallowed a fly (perhaps she'll die, she's dead of course!) WTF?? in a kids book? But I am sure that children don't give it a second thought.

Oh nooooo, its good to work out and name all these feelings. And a big part of it is enjoying being scared. We do a OTT big eyes, hand over mouth, big cuddle, laugh and 'ooooh, it's SCARY' with the dc (mostly with films). They LOVE it

No, children like being scared within reason. They will soon let you know if something is outside their comfort level. I may look out for that one myself...

Loads of books for small children are scary. There is no danger.

I'm glad that you all agree; she enjoys trying to "save" characters that are about to be eaten / fall into rivers etc, but I have never sensed that it might be genuinely scaring her.

Namechangingchick, I know what you mean; half the songs I sing to DD seem to have death in at some level...am hoping she won't ask about it for a while...
