Does anyone know if you can dilate significantly without having really strong contractions and therefore not realise you are in 'labor'?

( i posted this in 'pregnancy' topic before realizing it should've gone here!)

a lady at my baby massage class went to her routine 39 week appointment and was told she was in labour 4cm dilated!

no not at all.
Third pregnancy, all been very different.

No real reason to suspect this is whats happening except i am over due (only a week) and been having some contractions with cramping for about two weeks. each time lasting 1-2 hours, with them coming every 4-6 minutes and most of the time lasting over a minute.

It was just a though thats all!

Hi. This happens to me - either that or I dilate suddenly and very quickly. It's the best way. With my last two, I've only had 15 minutes or so proper labour.
DH is not so keen as he ended up delivering ds2.

Sorry, perhaps that wasn't the best post. Didn't realise you were heavily pregnant. Are you having an ante-natal soon?

you might be feeling it more strongly as this is a 3rd pregnancy.... also, i had really strong BH with DD who was persistent OP, wonder if it was my body trying to turn her before birth

or i might be the first woman ever, NOT to give birth - ever....lol

Had a growth scan only a few weeks back, LO was in correct position and as they reckon it being large i doubt it will have moved....

Its all just preparation - this can be the worst part of pregnancy, the waiting game!
