Childbirth

39 weeks, lots of discharge with red blood

Hi everyone

I have had lots of discharge this weekend and there is an increase in blood. The blood has gone from yellowish/green, to pinky, and now very red.

I am a bit worried. I haven't noticed any fluid leaking and I can't feel any contractions besides the usual pregnancy discomfort.

This is my first baby so I'm quite unsure of what it means. Please can anyone advise me. I'm quite scared.

I'd ring delivery suite/MW. My show was one blob of yellow and red, but had no bleeding as such. xx

Is the discharge mucus or liquid? It's not your waters leaking?

I never experienced any bleeding prior to labour, waters clear and no show. Think it can be a normal occurance but would suggest you ring your MW to check esp if quantity increases.

It's mucus. My mum is phoning MW as I type, apparently MW sounds a bit concerned.

hope everything is ok for you, is MW coming out to examine you, or sending you to hosptial?

try not to panic, blood and mucus mixed together can make bleeding look heavier. as long as you are seeking medical advice, that is the main thing. as long as the blood is not gushing or flowing out. should be fine

sometimes bleeding can indicate dilation, but it is best to be checked out.

a show can often be bloody

Thinking about you. It could be a show but glad you are calling a midwife.

My show was very bloody but I was at the Hospital by that time. Try and stay calm, good Luck!

I wouldn't wait for the midwife personally.
I would just go straight to the hospital and let them take a look.
Don't worry about inconveniencing anyone - that's what they are there for.
If midwife doesn't come out - then insist that she does.

I hope everything ok.

I had with dd1 and when i got to the hospital i was already 8/9cm dilated. Had dd1 about 4hours later.

I had that and 5 hours later (red blood came before any contractions) ds2 was born. It is probably just dilation, but always good to check it out.

Good luck!

Good luck kizzi. Hopefully baby is just preparing you for its arrival.

hi all, well midwife said as long as the baby is still moving, it's 'normal' and just to rest. She said things could happen soon. There hasn't been any more discharge/bleeding and I still haven't had any contractions. So the waiting game continues.

ps Lomond are you a glaswegian too?

My second baby was born 2 days after the first show. Glad you're both alright!

Glad things are ok Kizzib, how are you feeling today? Any more signs? Hope you get your baby soon! Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

In answer to your question no I'm not but pretty close to it! I come from/live in West Dunbartonshire, about 5 mins away from the Loch Lomond. (Hence my name!) That's about 30 min drive from Glasgow. Do you come from Glasgow?
