Will the mw break my waters if i want a home-birth

Long story really but in previous labours i've got to about 3cm dilated and then got stuck,each time i had my waters broken and the babies were born in a few hours.

This time i'd really like a hb but i just know that i will need my waters breaking for labour to progress, should i persue the home-birth or are they going to transfer me anyway?

I have heard that they are not allowed to break waters at a home birth. I am sure someone more authoratative will

I have also heard that a couple of MWs have 'accidentally' broken waters at a home birth in such a situation.

I think it depends on your mw.

Mine wouldn't break my waters at home as ds's head hadn't engaged. So if they broke the waters and it moved his head down, it could trap the umbilical cord and starve him of oxygen.

However, my sis had a hb and her mw broke her waters at home.

have a look at the homebirth site ,that should advise..but each individual midwife might have her own thoughts on this..speak to CMWs

Hmmm....I had a homebirth kit delivered by my MWs a couple of weeks ago (due next Thurs) and there are a couple of amnio hooks in there, so maybe they are able to break them if they deem it necessary?

My mw broke my waters at my home birth. Don't know the technicalities but I seemed really close - about 8cm? - but things started to slow. From an examination, she determined all waters - and hind waters? - were still intact. After getting my consent - I was still totally 'with it' - she broke my waters and things went really smoothly from there on in. Might be best to check what the policy is though, although, as someone else has said, it might be an unofficially accepted practice - it seems silly for what would be a straightforward birth to end in a transfer for something so routine.
