When your waters break

Stupid Question Time

Can you not realise your waters had broken? Hypothetically now.

What if you have a small bump that was mainly baby and not a lot of water. There would never be a gush just a trickle. What if you get small leaks of fluid that you presume are you bladder slowly giving up and ignore it and it actually is your waters and then say you don't get contractions. Can that happen?

Or am I just being irrational and pregnant!

It can happen, especially with the hindwaters. They can do a test at the hospital which says if it is amniotic or wee. How many weeks are you?

When mine broke it was the tiniest trickle, but it did not smell of urine. It smell a bit sweet in a sickly sort of way. I remember standing over a load of tissue to see if it stopped!!

Consequently the bathroom stank of amniotic fluid for about a month afterwards! Urghhhh

Don't know. The waters didn't go with either of mine till I was fully dilated.

Bumping for you.

Am 39 weeks at the weekend.

Only reason I ask is When pg with DD The mw broke my waters and I even then it was just a trickle that came out. Not even sure that wasn't blood not fluid. Nothing came out when they actually broke the waters that i can remember.
Have had increase Vaginal Discharge recently but that is normal. In the bath last night could feel fluid leaking but not sure if it was urine or not and couldn't tell in the bath. When I went the loo in the night as well same leak but not much and could have been wee.
Only having mild period pain niggles but not in waves just a constant dull ache.

Sounds like what happened to me typhoon. I waited 2 days before phoning hospital, cause I was sure it wasn't my waters. It smells slightly of chlorine, very clean sort of smell. Phone hospital they'll be able to tell for sure, I was 3cm dilated when I went in.

xx

Haven't had any leaks today so think it may just be a weak bladder. Will keep an eye on the smell if it happens again. Thanks for all advice.

My waters broke as a gush on the bathroom floor, I just 'trickled' for a few hours after they had broken and wore night time pads until reaching hospital.

I had no idea my waters had broken before hand, with my first two births. Both times, when the baby was born, the midwives were shocked and surprised that there was no water at all. It must have trickled out so slowly over the previous few days that I hadn't even noticed. I did feel a pop a few days before with no. 1 and then had a bit of a continuous show, but the trickle must have been so gradual, I didn't notice it. I was fully expecting the same thing to happen with no. 3, but his waters wouldn't break at all, and they had to be broken at the last minutes by the MW.

Yuo can get slow leaks - how many weeks? Mine happened to go in a gush so there was no doubt - but my RL friends a midwife, hers went in the shower, and she wasn't sure for ages....
