Wound infection after c-section

Hi, I had an elective section 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately a small section of the wound didn't heal and now I have an infection. My GP has given me a prescription for oral antibiotics and I have to have the wound dressed every three days until it heals. Did something like this happen to anyone else? If so how long did it take to heal up? I know it's not a major problem but it's very annoying just when I was hoping to get back to normal.

I think it's pretty common, to be honest.

I had a small infection in one section of my wound, I took antibiotics and it cleared up totally within about ten days - although there was some improvement within a couple of days. I dressed the wound myself for a few days with gauze pads, but actually found it healed better when I stopped putting the dressings on.

I also had a small infection about 10 days after the op. I think its very common & it cleared quickly. I know how you feel though - I burst into tears when the m/w told me - I was trying to recover & get back on track and at the time it felt like a step back. But it wasn't! Don't worry! Good luck with your recovery.

Out of my antenatal class where 4 of us had c-sections, 3 got minor wound infections, so I'm guessing it's fairly common. I was given the same treatment as you and it cleared up really quickly.

congrats on the birth BTW!

I had one. Mine lasted months too - wouldn't go. Eventually I passed a big clot at 10 weeks and THEN the docs deigned to give me a scan to check for retained products! Of course there were none there because the big clot was probably the problem.

Oh and my daughter had an allergic reaction to all the drugs (through my breastmilk) too!
