Braxton Hicks - this early?

I am hoping someone can reassure me as I think I have been having Braxton Hicks for a few weeks now but last night they where really painful. They always seem to come on at night when I go to bed - they really hurt and tend to make me feel sick. It is a sweeping pain across my stomach from one side to the other. This is my second pregnancy and I had them with my first but never as many as I got last night and I don't remeber them this early on. I am only 28wks.
Has anyone experienced anything similar.
Thanks

I have been getting them since 20 weeks, but only when I exercise. I asked my GP about it and she said to take it easy...Go and see your doctor if you are worried. The only other thing I can think of is ligaments stretching when you lie down. I find a pillow under the bump helps to ease that.

Michie - it is hard for me to remember but I do recall that with my second pregnancy braxton hicks happened much earlier than with my first and were far more painful & also more frequent. However, def check with your midwife at your next appointment to put your mind at rest.
Take care xxxx

I had braxton hicks from around 12 weeks - apparently it was due to me being dehydrated (from morning sickness), therefore increasing the concentration of hormones in my blood. They stayed as braxton hicks , although I was monitored for them at some point. My baby was born on time.

If they're causing you that much discomfort, then you should get yourself checked out to make sure they are no problems.

Michie, this is my 2nd pg and I am 34 weeks. I have been having them since about 24 weeks as well. I never had them with my first pg at all, well not like this. They are quite 'in yer face' and like you worse at night. If I lay on my side my bump actually hurts unless I put a pillow under it. HTH.

UCM - sounds exactly like mine - cant lay on my side as it hurts. Baby also kicks me in the side until I lay on my back which doesn't help much.

Thanks for all your help - I am going to mention this to the midwife and if it continues or gets worse i think I will call her before appointment.

I don't know if anyone knows whether Braxton Hicks can be brought on by tiredness or stress (child no.1 is 2 and constantly active!) as they do tend to happen when very tired.

I've been getting them since 15 weeks. Fourth pregnancy. Now 27 wks 3 days. I get loads if I exert myself with the housework or am tired. They are really strong. I have to rest til they calm down. House is a mess
