C-sec scar tips and advice

I had a ELCS a week ago today. Overall I don't feel too bad now really, getting back to normal ish but obviously doing no lifting / housework stuff!

The only thing is at times my scar really hurts, v sore like its torn a bit, often just one side (different side) and not normally the whole scar. Midwife has checked and said looks to be healing fine which is great.

I guess this is normal at this point? I'm only taking paracetamol now but it hurts the most in the morning when I wake up and evening / bed time really.

Does anyone have any tips of what can help it heal faster/help with the soreness?

I've not applied anything to the wound or had a bath yet but shower twice a day (just water nr scar) and dry after (allow to air for five mins too)

Any advice at all?

Thanks

Mine really hurt too for ages. I didn't put anything on it at all at any point and it's practically invisible now a year and a half later. I found the deeper layers to be more painful than the outer layer- I guess it's the uterus contracting and the muscle slowly returning to something like its original shape.

Sorry posted too quickly. I took stronger pain killers for longer. Didn't move onto paracetamol only until week 3.

Arnica capsules and just time. Think sometimes less is best. You'll be surprised how much difference there is between how you feel now and 1-2 weeks time. Still early days.

7 months on, and one side of mine has completely faded to almost a silvery stretch mark line, the other end is still a bit raised but its much more faded than it was.

After mine had healed up I Bio-oiled every night which I think helped- just take it really easy until then and don't hoover, push the pram or lift the car seat even if you feel like you'll be ok.

The easier you take it now, the quicker you'll be back to normal. Probably took 3 weeks before I stopped imagining my insides falling out!

Depressingly my scar was neat and barely visible but with pregnancy number two and a rather sizeable bump it has gone red, lumpy and itchy Sad

Lots of the tingling comes from the nerves trying to reconnect, as well as your womb shrinking back to size and general healing. Just remember you've had major surgery! Keep it easy and please don't overdo yourself even when you feel better!
I managed to tear myself a little at 6 weeks thinking I was fine. Keep yourself dosed up with pain meds and let plenty of air get to it.
Congrats on your little one.

I had my 4th c section 7 weeks ago and It does take time. I continued with the 'hospital painkillers' until 3 weeks past gp was happy to prescribe more. One side still pulls and hurts more than the other. Take it easy, some days I do more as I feel fine then regrett it in the evening ??. Congratulations to you x

Hi I have had two c sections and both times I remember feeling soreness around the scar and general abdomen soreness as well for quite a while, I used kelocote spray both times to aid the healing process - just spray it on twice a day and leave for a few mins to dry. No idea how effective it would have been vs. not using but my scar is pretty much non existent now 18 months on so I feel it may have helped my recovery.

As PP said, keep on the stronger meds for a while. also, get your partner to check it every day to make sure it's healing correctly and there's no build up of blood behind it. If there is, then go back to midwife and get her to express the blood.

Above all, take it easy! You'll have days where you feel great, and then something as simple as a walk will set you bck a day or two. Remember, you've had major abdominal surgery, accept all offers of help!

Hope you feel better soon. It's been 8 weeks now since mine and def feel back to normal in the past fortnight. Congrats on your new bundle!

I'm 11 days post EMCS (first child) and feel similar - just taking paracetamol now as I don't like taking ibuprofen for too long. Feeling ok around the house but notice it if I try walking about outside - I'm very slow!

One thing I've found that makes a difference is to take the painkillers every 6 hours i.e. making sure I have a dose in the middle of the night; if I stick to taking them in the day only I know about it by morning.

It is still very early days! I took about 3 weeks before feeling more normal but still struggled with lifting and twisting. Tugging feeling on scar until about 5 weeks. 7 weeks on now, feeling normal again and considering exercise...

Yes I really want to exercise when I can do! I've dropped lots overnight already but think it will creep on in the next month while I'm not up to much. Hoping I'll at least be feeling up to longer walks by week 3/4 and then see from there.

The scar itself looks ok now but it's kind of puffy all above it...am hoping this is just bruising and will gradually reduce?!
