After a long and traumatic labour three years ago, I ended up in theatre with forceps and a very bad 3rd degree tear.
As a result I was very nervous throughout my 2nd pregnancy and at my checking in appt I asked my midwife if a c-sec would be a better option for me.
I saw a consultant (for about 10 minutes) at 20 weeks, who told me that loads of women have forceps first time round but that as my recovery had been fine (if slow) I should be fine having a normal birth this time around. He even told me I could have a home birth if I liked.
In fact the labour was almost identical to my 1st and I ended up having my 10lb baby pulled out with forceps, terrible tear etc, nearly 2 weeks late.
Midwives I have seen since have expressed surprise that I wasn't offered a c-sec given that it looks like I have a tilted pelvis and would never be able to give birth naturally. The HV was also surprised that I was allowed to go so overdue given the size of the baby (and the first birth).
So has anyone else had forceps twice?
Was I just unlucky or should the consultant have steered me differently?
Grateful to hear any experiences...
