Bandls ring and obstructed labour

I wondered if any mumsnetters had any experience of bandls ring. My first dd was born by emergancy section - failure to progress. I went for VBAC for my second and ended up with another emergancy c section reason given - obstructed labour and bandls ring. I am now pregnant with no 3 and will go for an elective this time. I was so out of it after ds that I didnt really take in what the consultant said caused it. It seems pretty rare. Anyone know anything about it?

It is caused by the fact that labour is obstructed - that is the uterus is contracting away but the baby is not progressing down the birth canal. Sometimes it happens earlier in labour when the cervix has stopped dilating. It is a sign that the uterus could rupture if baby not delivered. Good idea for elective C/S this time.

My situation has been similar to your's bearford. I had a bandls ring with my 2nd pregnancy, after having an emergency c-sect with my 1st pregnancy, due to failure to progress & fetal distress. Obviously, my labour didn't progress and I ended up having a 2nd emergency c-sect. I became pregnant again and was advised to have an elective c-sect because of the previous 2 emergency c-sects, but the consultant did say that the bandls ring was unlikely to occur again. My elective c-sect was booked in for 39wks but ended up having an 'urgent' c-sect after going to labour spontaneously at 35wks. Not sure if previous problems had anything to do with baby no3 coming early but I would be prepared if I was you. Good luck!
