And I'm bricking it. Totally and utterly. Have hardly slept and that's making me worse, knowing I need as much energy as possible.

Was also rather hoping the rather painful backache I've had for the last 12 hours would have developed into meaningful Labour by now, but no.

Would really appreciate some hand holding, please. #needy

I wish I could have another baby! It is scary though - that feeling of just waiting - there's nothing like it! I'm here..I'll hold your hand

That backache might have been doing something you know. Maybe getting things geared up.

Is this your first baby?

I've been where you are and it's very scary. But very soon you will be meeting your little one and it will be the best thing ever!

I need to ring at 8.30 and they'll tell me when to go in.

Not sure why I'm getting myself in a state - the fact I will be responsible for a little person forever more or the thought of the pain - I'm harbouring secret hopes that actually I'm already 5cm and labour really will be just like shelling peas, but as I cry at a stubbed toe, I don't hold out much hope for this!

Oh and the length of time it could take. I know it's a long, drawn out process but the idea of 32 hours in labour as my friend has just done makes me want to cry. I fully appreciate I'm being pathetic!

Yes, first baby! I can't wait to meet her, but just full of nerves now. I'm being induced due to high blood pressure (and I'm on aspirin) but I imagine it's through the roof at the moment. I'm 41 weeks today.

Today would be a pretty cool birth date to have. I hope she doesn't take her time coming out. But then we really will have to make up our minds on her name....

Ok, 32 hours in labour sounds awful, and it isn't a picnic but (a) There's nothing to say that will happen to you and (b) Early labour isn't constant, excrutiating pain, it's usually a slow build up, much like the backache you're experiencing now. So when people talk about a 32 hour labour, it is usually not as horrendous as it sounds at all.

As ridiculously hard as it sounds, the very best thing you can do it try to relax. Look at your scan picture or the outfit you've picked out for baby and think about the little person that you will be meeting soon. And no more uncertainty about when it's going to happen, or worrying about your waters breaking in Sainsburys. It's going to happen in the safest place possible, with all the pain relief you need and lovely midwives bringing you cups of tea and making sure you're ok.

You'll be fine - you'll cope far better than you think you will. Any chance of you getting a few hours sleep? Try and get your head down if you can. And it's fine to be shitting it - it doesn't mean you won't be brilliant. Sending you hugs...I'm really excited for thinking of you cherrylips!

I'd love to agree with you Misfitless but puke has been a constant all the way through! I've given up wondering if it's a Sign ;) (but I really hope it is...)

And yes the being sick is a good sign. Could be your body clearing out ready for things to get going.

Thank you both. Putting the kindle away and going to try a.d shut my eyes.

Pain relief. There's pain relief. And gas and air, I'd forgotten about that.

Who forgets pain relief is an option?!

I was really worried. At it was fine! I was induced and after a 12 hour wait labour got going and 12 hours later dd was here! It's not always horrid! My advice once it starts is to keep in mind that you're body is amazing so don't fight the contractions, they are really positive pain. Keep positive, it doesn't last for ever and you'll be in really
good hands.

Thank you! I got about an hours sleep after I logged off, I'm feeling better than I was at 4.30!

I've been sick again and I'm bleeding again (TMI? Sorry lol - had a stretch & sweep Thursday & have bled on and off since then) so I'm still kind of hoping I'm further along than I think. Had a while when I had regular waves of back pain - so regular I wondered if they were in fact contractions and if I should be timing them but I managed to get back to sleep and whatever they were have stopped.

I'm excited more than nervous now ;) And I really appreciate you being here at ridiculous hours of the morning.

I was induced. It was 22 hours from walking into the hospital to them handing me DS and it was fine.

The drugs were cracking too! :)

Aww, good luck. You'll be fine. I was induced with DD and a long labour. If it was so terrible I would be pg with DC#2

Yes, it does hurt but the drugs are fab. If you feel like it have the epidural. I did, and the relief was lovely.

With an induction you will need to be constantly monitored. For me I ended up lay on my back. I'm convinced if I could have moved around my labour would have been quicker.

Just do what feels right for you. If you want an epidural before they put the drip in then do it

You do sound as though things are well on their way, I'm a bit concerned about the bleeding though!

I'm sure you'll be great OP, and induction isn't always horrendous.

When I had mine I had three of the pessary things to try to start labour more gently before they put me on the drip (my DS was not wanting to come out!). So if you are already having some symptoms, all you might need is a little nudge do to speak before your body just gets on with it!

We got there just before half 10, had a couple of 'are they? Aren't they?' Style contractions. Was put into the CTG just after 2pm, started having more regular contractions but when I spoke yo the midwife, she said I'd know if I was contracting or not and I really wasn't sure. Baby's heartrate kept going down every time I had a 'non'contraction so made sure I mentioned it when she came back. She got the registrar to examine me, who said I was 3cm dilated and should go to delivery suite to have waters broken. That was at 3pm. By 4pm. I was begging for gas & air, and by 4.15 I wanted to push. Was told it was a bit soon but she'd examine me and see how far off I was. Next breathe was told I could push if I wanted on next contraction so I did. Body took over and my daughter was born at 4.36pm weighing 6lbs2oz. I'm still in shock at the speed in which things kicked off when they went (I didn't get as far as being induced!) but I'm besotted. She's had 2 good breast feeds (the first being 3 hours long!!!) and we've done the first pooey nappy. OH didn't pass out either.

We're still on postnatal ward - they want to keep an eye on my blood pressure - but I can't sleep, I'm just sat staring at her. 2nd degree tear too, I'd say getting stitched up for that was worse than the birth. And I've just had a wee - ooof that stung a bit. I'm dreading the first poo (mine). Sorry for ramblyness, I'm knackered now and on the phone! And thank you all again for hand holding!
