Im panicking, and soon i fear i will be REALLY REALLY panicking! i have an elective c-section booked tommorow! i have to be there for 8am and im bloddy terrified! its my third and i should be more ok about it all after 3 i think - i thought i would be much calmer about it! but im dreading going to bed as i know i wont sleep a bit, i will just lay there all night thinking OMG!!!! im really looking forward to meeting my new little bundle, but i hate the spinal anaesthetic bit and im dreading it! My sister says she has a great ability to 'take herself away' in a stressful or scary situation, has anyone any ideas as to how the hell you do this! anyone any ideas how i can get a grip - stop myself panicking and working myself up? im really trying not to let the panic get the better of me but im not sure im winning! - HELP!

Yayyy! How exciting!

Sorry, don't have any advice as to how to avoid panicing - I didn't sleep a wink before dd was born (elective secion, second birth) but TBH I think it's natutal to be flipping out a bit - it's not often you know exactly where and when you are going to be giving birth. Just surrender yourself to the whole process and have a wonderful, wonderful time!

Oh you are so sweet! thanku! i think writing the worry's down is a good idea! and i think you are right too zippy it is natural to be flippin out but i really thought id be more together than this! im sure i was last time! the waiting is the worst bit though, and im worried how my other two will be, ds1 is 5 , and reasonably aware of whats going on, but ds2 is only 2.5 and he has always been really really clingy with me and so im worried about how he will be when he comes to see me at the hospital and then has to go, if he gets upset i know i will be a really upset too! there are so many things running around and around my head! what if this happens, what if something goes wrong! what if there's something wrong with baby! what if i dont bond with him/her! i need to get a grip quick! i hope i get some sleep tonight

Ask for some gas and air while they put the needles in your spine. It really helped me.

you don't ask them if they can give you it, you tell them you want it. It's a huge bloody needle, and they put it right in your spine. You are entitled to some pain relief.

Gas and air also fuddles your brain. I will be having it for my blood tests, as I am phobic about them, and it means I can have it done without throwing up or passing out or screaming

Oh you sound like me colditz! i had no idea i could have gas and air! thanku for telling me, thats exactly what i'll be asking for as soon as i get there i think! i cant look at some needles without feeling the need to go green and fall over - let alone the bloody knitting needle they put in your spine! i feel better now! thanku ladies, im off to bed now, i'll no doubt lay there for the entire night stressin, but i have to try and get some sleep i suppose! hopefully i will be back here soon telling you all how brave i was and how everything went smoothly! oooeeeerrr!!! [panic face] xxx

No help as it was the worst bit of mine too. Gas and air sounds like a fantastic idea.

But... have a fantastic day and happy birthday to your new baby !
