Car seats compatible with the Stokke Xplory

Hi ya!

we recently bought the Stokke Xplory, thought woo hoo job done! Then shortly realised the package we had bought didn't come with a car seat (first time parents!) I have done a little bit of research and it seems that we can either go with a Stokke car seat, which from what i can see has to be strapped into the car, or we can get a Maxi Cosi, buy the adapter which makes it possible to use it on the pram, and it also is isofix and from what i can gather, looks a lot easier to get in and out the car.

Does anyone have any experience of this, any advice would be greatly appreciated, ive looked and looked and I think i just need some advice from someone experienced! :) xx

We went with the Maxi Cosi. The Stokke car seat was sooooo heavy even without a baby in it! I got some adapters from eBay for £5 rather than pay for new ones.

Tbh, we didn't actually attach the car seat to the pram very often. We preferred to move DD even if it meant waking her. We knew it was important in the first 6 months for her to be lying flat both for her airway and her spine/gross motor development.

Id go for the Maxi Cosi just incase you get sick of the Stokke in a few months. The Maxi Cosi will attach to many pushchairs so will offer more flexibility.

Thank you!

i did wonder how much we would actually be clicking out the car straight into the pram - and the Stokke ones looks horrifically expensive. Maxi Cosi it is then! Stargirl - did you put DD in the carrycot bit or the the 'other bit' (that actually comes with the pram) when she was little!?

and ive just seen mothercare have an offer on if you buy the pram now you get a free car seat grrrrrrrrrrr !!!! Typical!

ALSO! Did you get the changing bag?

Yes, we had the carrycot for the first 6 months. We switched to the Xplory seat after that. We are now (20 months old) considering turning the seat to be forward facing and putting it to the bottom of the chassis so she can climb in and out herself.

Yes, we bought the change bag :) It's just a bag though. Any bag would do.

We also bought the Winter Kit :) and the carry cot fleece sleeping wrap :) It was really useful in the Winter of 12/13 which was much colder than this winter. It meant she could sleep outside comfortably. I was often jealous of how cosy she was!

I am now bidding for a cup holder on eBay :)

You'll have bought the V4 with the lockable front wheels? That would definitely make a difference getting on the bus.

Make sure you get lots of practise folding and unfolding before your LO comes along - you'll need to teach the GPs!

Thats interesting about the bag- the lady in the shop told me no other bag would fit it!

There are so many accessories, i think if anyone asks if they can get me anything I might point them in the winter kit direction lol!

i guess its the V4... we got it about two months ago! I had a half hour with it trying to make it work, got all sweaty and annoyed and put it away again at my mums house - i will go and have another go though there must be a knack to it- annoyingly my mum managed it first time!

Not helpful for you at all but I bought one of the very first xplorys 9, yes NINE, years ago. No carrycots, no car seats, not even a sun parasol lol. You just got the standard seat.

I bloody loved that pram, was obsessed with it, despite being given a perfectly lovely travel system by my sister who didn't need it anymore. My MIL bought the stokke for me because she said she could never afford a new pram for her babies so I should have the one I wanted.

Like I said, not helpful, lol.

MIL is a gem.

I sold the pram on eBay when I was done with it. The woman who bought it sent her husband from Birmingham to Surrey to collect it when their baby was about 2 days old. He was knackered and bewildered the poor man. She also had a perfectly good pram already but REALLY wanted an xplory.

When I bought it it stood out amongst a sea of bugaboos, which were also quite new at the time. It got some sideways looks but I didn't care!

Good luck with your PFB.
