I have 10 month old twins (and two older dc) and am now looking into the next stage car seats.
I do not live in the UK and the choice where I am is very limited, so will have to buy on line, hence being unable to try before I buy.

At the moment we have a VW Touran and DH should be getting a company car soon (hoping for a VW Sharan).

Our requirements:

  1. easy to move inbetween cars, as I'll used them in mine during the week but swap to Dh's at weekend and for holidays.

  1. narrowish as one of my chidlren will have to squeeze in between the cars seats, or next to them depending where we put them.

  1. Not too expensive as we need two!

Dd1 doesn't use a car seat anymore and dd1 (8) has a small booster.

Thanks in advance!

Kiddy seats are good for moving between cars. If you go to kiddy.de and click on the button to turn it into English you can see the different ones they have. DS loved his, has just grown out of it just before he was 4.

10 months is pretty young, though, as an aside. I know you might just be looking ahead, but the rear facing infant seats are by far the safest and most convenient option, so best to keep them in there as long as possible. They're only too big if they've reached the weight limit (13kg on EU-produced seats) or if the top of their head reaches the edge of the seat.

Thanks Bertie I am not planning to move them before they reach 13kg, but I since I'll probably ahve to order online, I'd like to know what the best options are and shop around so I have time!

thanks for the suggestion I will have a look, are they all good or is there a specific model that is considered better?

many thanks

There are 3 brands of seat which come with impact shields, Kiddy, Cybex and Jané. I'd probably avoid the Jané as they just use their high backed booster seat and sell the impact shield as an add on, it probably won't be worth it.

I don't think there's much difference between Cybex and Kiddy although someone else might know.

These are all the cybex seats
These are all the Kiddy seats

You might have to google for measurements etc if they're not on there.

The other good option would be to get a seat which clips onto a base, and get two sets of bases for each seat. That means all you have to do is take them on and off the bases to move between cars, and don't have to fit each time.

thanks again bertie, very useful info, I think I'm sold on the Cybex one as it also has a recline function which is operated from teh front rather than the back (like the Kiddy ones).

Just need to make sure it fits in the car!
