As above really.. Are there any car seats for 18kg+ with a 5 point harness.
Obviously a 5 point belt is the safest option but are there any larger seats with them??

Hi, the britax-way, the multi-tech, the two way elite and maxi cosi mobi are all harnessed to 25kgs. The only one that can go ff with a harness to 25kgs is the britax two way elite. There might be more but I can't think of them atm.

Have a look at the Renolux quick comfort seat. I bought it for my DD who is 7 in April and v tall for her age. It's a fab seat, 5 point harness fit my DD way beyond the maxi cosy that we had before. I think she was 3 when she grew 2 big for the other seat. I'd post a link but on iPod now.

The Renolux is only harnessed to 18kg though so a child heavier than that would have to use the seat as a HBB.

My DD wad harnessed until 6.5yrs in her Britax Elite. We bought it so that should could be kept harnessed for longer. Unfortunately, she out grew it height wise before she hit 18kgs...she was 6.5yrs though, so it lasted ages. It will harness to 25kgs which I believe is one of only a handful of seats in the UK to do this.

The Recaro Young Sport only harnesses to 18kg but you can use the seat as a HBB until 36kg or they outgrow it height wise.

I have a 7 year old ds who is a light weight boy he is just under 18kg so need to look for next size car seat. We have the additional problem that he has epilepsy and asd would feel safer if he was in a 5 point harness as I feel for his own safety when he has seizures or meltdowns if all he had was an adult seat belt it would not contain him. Is the only real choice I have is a britax two way elite?

Snowy, try ringing the Incarsafety centre. I posted the link above. they're v helpful and stock a range of special needs seats. I think there is also the Britax traveller plus si and the Recaro start which are forward facing harnessed to 36kg. They are v expensive though Sad. They ahve various harnesses too, but I don't know anything about them.
