We are planning to go camping in the New forest this summer. Not sure whether its such a good idea with our one year old. Has anyone done it?

It's a great idea. Took our 14mth twins camping and had a fab time. Admittedly they did spend a lot of time getting very grubby. Is your baby walking? one of ours was and the other wasn't. We bought a big piece of matting from a camping place (sort of woven plastic stuff) to spread on the ground outside the tent for them to play on.We didn't take many toys. Just a set of stacking cups, a small football, plastic boats and cars and buckets and spades. THey had loads of fun just mucking about with a washing up bowl full of water. At least at this age they won't be moaning all the time like we did when our parents took us camping as teenagers. Have a lovely holiday.

yes, we did it last summer, and it worked out great. we brought the travel cot which doubled as a play pen when we put up the tent, were cooking, etc. At night, he would fall asleep in my arms at the campfire, and I would put him in the tent then. Bring plenty of changes of clothes, and some food in jars if your baby will eat it, just in case your BBQ won't light, or some other mishap occurs. We also had our 2 year old, who can't wait to go this year and keeps talking about it.[he's 3 now]
