Camping

A tent, for two, doo doo de doo doo ....

I need a tent for moi and dd (5). We usually end up cosleeping at home anyway, so am totally not bothered about doing so in a tent. Thought about this as a bargain giggle, but then saw this as a grown up sensible option. We are starting with garden camping, then UK camping, building up to France in the summer. I could get both? And use the teepee as a garden toy? I just don't know!

That Outwell looks good - a proper growed up tent

or something like this vango? I can put ours up with dd's help and she was 5 last time we tried. the vango also has a decent head height in the living bit so you don't have to do too much crawling round!

although your dd would probably love the teepee to play in!

The vango is brilliant, if it just two of you you will have a decent amount of space, in a single living/sleeping area, plus a porch. It is a good price too.

That Vango is a REALLY good price isn't it! Have just seen how rubbish my grammar was too-sorry. Ordered the teepee as we are hoping to have afternoon tea in the garden on Sunday, so we defo can now! The main thing that excited me about the Outwell were the two sleeping compartments for when she gets a bit older and wants to get dressed without me seeing her , but Vango's are meant to be REALLY good aren't they?

I did a very bad, very impulsive thing-I saw a random link to a Utah 4 kids room, and ended up buying a Utah 4 and kids room . We had SO better enjoy camping now! (We have to-I need to work all summer so the only hols we will get will be weekends, so we need easy getaways). I am going to be asking a lot of questions on here in the next few months!!

tee hee i'm a terrible impulse tent buyer - two years ago I came on here asking for opinions on a Norfolk Lake and despite slubber telling me not to...I bought it.

She knows me though and wasn't entirely surprised

i now have 5 tents

is it this Outwell tent that you now own?

very nice - lovely and light.

Yes-that one-from that site too . I typed in outwell utah reviews and every post on a uk camping site thing said "I will never use another brand" so I bought it . Have also got the details for Amerden campsite in maidenhead, as I want to take dd to Legoland, and really want to try out my first ever tent!!! I never went camping as a child as mum wasn't the kind to live with crumpled clothes, so am really excited now! I want some fat airics but can't find them in stock anywhere, and want to go away asap now (so much for summer getaway ).

How was your Norfolk Lake after all? I love you for being an impulse tent buyer! . Need good coolbox opinions too-we have a very small car (the size of a cinquicento) so space is of a premium!

aaah the space issue... we have a roofbox and have just today bought a.

trailer! one of these but we got it from B&Q and ended up paying a lot less than it was advertised as - not really sure why but we're not complaining (£200 less ) It was very funny watching dh driving it back from B&Q as he's never towed before.

ang yes we lurve Lakey - she's on my profile in Devon iirc
welcomne to the Outwell camp - tis a very exclusive camp and you won't hear anyone saying anything bad about them. Class on the campsite

Big Fat Airics are sadly out of stock until June/July (this is the only place you can buy them unless any have been traded on Ebay). Alpkit is very helpful about waiting lists for their products and will send you your order as soon as it is available by next day delivery.

Is there anything I can use to put us on? I don't want to fork out twice, I.e airbeds and then airics, but at the same time don't want to be uncomfy ( and thermarests are so expensive!!) hooray and hello to the outwell campers!! X

I REALLY want them

Oh no no

You prob got the last ones filly-it won't let you place an order now, so panic not!! Am I best getting el cheapo camp beds and whacking a lilo on top to put us on? I don't want to spend loads putting us on, but don't want to be cold and miserable either! Xx

I have them, they are HERE! Yay!

Don't go for cheap stuff, no. Otherwise you will be cold and that will wreck the next day

I'd get the best coleman's airbed you can plus a car battery operated pump. Honestly, I am not one for spending loads of money on kit, we have the absolute basics but really would get the most decent airbed you can fford, PLUS a mains/battery pump.

What if I got thermarests? Or do they have to be on top of an airbed anyway? We defo need something before July, so may have to write airics off. You can't just lay airics/thermarests on the floor can you ? You would freeze!! This advice is great by the way!

well you CAN get thermarests but they are really pricey

You could always get regular airics, they are still in stock. I only got the souped up ones because I have very small kids and worry about cold.

nannpL has good advice re cold and camping, let me see if I can do a link

He he, thank you! Dd never feels the cold, but I do like crazy. Am thinking of taking sleeping bags and duvets anyway, but every bit of warmth/comfort counts!! He he! May get regulars anyway tho as I really want airics and July is too long a wait! Thanks filly-you are a star!
