Camping

How would you complain about a campsite?

Myself (and later a load of my friends joined me) have just come back from a dire week camping.

It rained (ok, not their fault obvs) but the first field flooded - think glastonbury. Surely they should have some kind of drainage so it can't happen? We all got muddy and drenched and we lost some (inexpensive) belongings.

They moved us to a new pitch (actually I complained and said i wanted to move!) which was fine in the end but along the way they tried to convince me to move to a new field which was totally unsuitable and said it wasn't their fault that my child (and some of the friends children) were disabled..... (hence it was unsuitable because of that).

We came home a day early (even though we'd paid for the extra night but made the mistake of mentioning to them that we might be. They then booked someone else in for the extra night and comaplined we weren't gome by 11 and even tried to get some more money for it! (we hadn't got a refund for the extra night - we were literally just not sleeping over).

Does that make sense?

The owner was SOOOOOOOOOOOO unhelpful and rude but I (and my friends) really want to complain to someone who will listen.

What do you think? Thanks.

i dont think much can be done if fields flood

if the campsite is a member of an organisation like tourist board or caravanning club you could say to them

otherwise other than posting a review on a website then it is a case of putting it down to experience i think

most effective way is to put a review on a website, as already mentioned - I always check out reviews on the web.

Thanks. I've just had a quick search and can't find any reviews. It's only 2 yrs old so maybe there aren't any.

I nearly forgot, in relation to the disability element. They also said they were worried about how the other campers might feel (the new site was with everyone else and not in a seperate field as first given) about their being disabled children there and insisted we use the disabled facilities to keep us apart a bit.

There's not much they can do about the weather obv, but beingrude and unhelpful isn't on. You could post a review on ukcampsite website. I always check reviews and I think alot of campsite owners do.

Where was it btw?

Can I say where it was on here?

I can't think why not. Anybody disagree? People slag off Boden, Argos, Tesco etc. on here and it doesn't deem to be a problem.

No say, I'm lurking and dying to know...

It looks nice on their website!

I guess they can always delete this.

key thing here seems to be their attitude to disability- rain cannot be helped and booking/cancelling issues perhaps down to misunderstanding...but 'keeping apart' 'worrying how other campers might feel'??? this defifnitely merits a complaint and a very bad review. How dare they.

Post a review on www.ukcampsite.co.uk, it's the most popular amongst campers.

Sorry to hear you had such a rotten time

I would say naming on here is a good idea, if anyone searches on google for info on that site there will be a link to this thread in the future. (that is how I bumped into MN years ago - cant seem to find the exit)

Thank goodness you named it - it was one we were only looking at last night. Will avoid it like the plague!

Sorry you had a miserable time. That's the problem with camping - its so unpredictable

Really, hot cross bunny? Wow!

Thanks for that link, i've posted my review! Hopefully it'll show up on there very soon.

Tbh i've never really thought about searching for reviews for campsites but will in future (although apart from mine the reviews on there are positive, only mentioning it's location as a negative).

Just realised that I forgot to mention that their 'play area' as advertised was a pile of rubble behind a locked gate.
