Lake Garda - recommended sites

We are going on our very first campsite holiday to Lake Garda in May. Kids aged 9,8 and 6 and happy with a swimming pool/slides, and DH needs peaceful and scenic location. Heard Bella Italia is a bit frenetic and too big. I'd love your recommendations.

We are hiring a mobile or chalet - as DH has back problem and needs a good bed should I go to the expense of hiring a chalet? I've hear the mobiles are as spacious as chalets and its not worth the extra.

Sorry can't advise but didn't want this to go unanswered!

Do they have a website with chalet / mobile dimensions on it? Could you email them to ask about the bed quality/ firmness of the mattresses?

We recently stayed in Camping San Francesco near Sirmione.

We stayed in one of the bigger caravans. The site was quite busy over the easter holiday weekends, but he pool was still closed. I was suprisingly quite volume wise especially after 11pm and between 1 and 3pm. The sports/ pool area was far away from the main caravan area, we were only 4 rows away from the lake side.

As for chalets V caravans, look very carefully as sme of the cabins/ chalets are quite basic, beds will be much the same throughout. I don't think you will get a better bed in a chalet or brick building. Perhaps he can sleep on a single mattress on the living room floor .

Anyway I was impressed with the area and we are going back next year.

Friend is just back from Bella Italia, she loved it. In May, unlikely to be busy. We usually do canvas/keycamp etc in France in late June and it is fairly quiet even then, only the Dutch and Irish families seem to be on holiday that early.

Oh I didn't notice it was May, even Bella Italia will be fairly civalised at that time of year. Check if it is cheaper booking caravans direct with the parks, sometimes they offer different types of accomodation too.
