Can anyone recommend something whi is lightweight and comfortable and takes up the least amount of space in the boot of a car?

Alos, what do your young children sit on when they eat?

We have one of these at the moment

great for not too heavy people, fine for little ones too - our dd managed when she was just 3.

am currently coveting one of these then dh and I can sit on the same side without it tipping up!!

We also have those fold up chairs for late night wine drinking too - you can fit a can if Stella into one of the pockets very nicely thank you

the argos one looks good, I hope there are more suggestions, we don't have anytining like these just now, we have been lucky in getting to camp beside wooden picnic tables in the past

We decided not to go with the bench-and table formula, as it didnt suit our family. So we have our usual folding chairs, all sat next to one of these

We have the same camping chairs - bought at Oxford services LOL and an aluminium slatted camping table from Argos. The table is really stable and great for putting the stove on.

are the camping chairs high enough up to eat properly at the table?

I'm sure ours wouldn't be, and I don't think we could get close enough to the table either.

Look at places like Aldi as summer approaches as they sell good quality camping stuff at very reasonable prices. I bought the aluminum folding table for about a tenner last year. Fine for weekend use.

Do you know what often we just eat on the floor, or on our laps, and if a particulalry tricky dinner then we eat in our van. We had a folding picnic table but it broke, probably because I am lardy

The camping chairs are a little low for eating at the roll up aluminium tables, but the fact that they use up so little space in the boot is brilliant.

table thus (sure we didn't pay that much for it though) and really basic chairs like this - I find the butterfly-folding type too low to sit at the table and not v good for back support.

Thanks everyone. We have quite a good table but the butterfly fold chairs we have are too bulky for fitting in our car now. I wondered whether we should opt for flat fold chairs with our table or get one of those fold up table and bench things.

We've got one of those fold up table and bench thingys because it came in a package with the tent. Seems to be pretty stable and didn't tip up even when we were on a hill and kids both sat on downward side. We did buy a non-slip mat from a £1 shop to put across the top because the plates were sliding off though!

We've also got those chairs with the little mesh cup-holders for sitting around in the evenings. The kids have got little versions but only because every inch of space in our Peugeot 205 was precious!

Oooooh, are we doing camping chat already

We generally go to the same camp site which has picnic benches for hire (something like £1 for a week) which solves that problem. But we do have 2 adult chairs, 2 child-sized chairs and footstools (from a sale at wildday).

Or we eat on the picnic rug, on the grass. hardcore

we have camping fold up chairs and 2 tables, one 'camping' fold up one and one that was 13E in a frech supermarket (lightweight green and round with detachable legs. When packing we put this in fist so it really doesn't take much room

Do the slatted top tables roll up iyswim or do the tops stay square and just the legs fold under? Are they all the same do you think or do some roll and others remain square? Sorry if I'm being thick, just don't have room for a whole table top in the boot.

on our one the slatted top comes off and rolls up, the legs concertina together in the manner of an umbrella and the whole lot goes in a tubular canvas bag about 70cm long and 6in across.
