camping on the way from Essex to Scotland - where should we go? Help!

So - we were supposed to be staying somewhere in Yorkshire for two nights on the way to visiting family in Glasgow. For various reasons, that's fallen through, and now I need to think of somewhere good and not very expensive to stay for either one or two nights around 28-30 July.

I feel really stuck, I've looked at campsite reviews but I just don't know what to do. We've got a lovely new tent that we've put up in the in-laws garden but haven't actually camped with, DD who is 3 is very excited about it. But I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Has anyone got any recommendations for nice campsites that would be near a good stopping point between Essex and Glasgow? Yorkshire, Northumberland, somewhere around there?

I think Clumber Park has a campsite. We often stop there to break a journey, but have never camped. There always seems to be plenty going on.
