Slimfast - gaining weight?!

Before I start this thread I'm going to put a disclaimer

I KNOW this isn't a sustainable or healthy way to lose weight long term, please don't pile in to tell me to eat less and move more.

Right now that's out the way,

I am using a supply of shake based meal replacement I had in the store cupboard, I'm loathed to throw 3 unopened boxes away so I thought id following this plan until I run out and lead into calorie counting using mfp.
I've been logging the shakes/food in currently having and coming in at 1100-1200 cals a day.

I am also breastfeeding my 1 yr old.
She still has a lot of milk.

I'm 5ft and I weighed 10st 11 at the start and then dropped 3lbs th first week, this week I've gained 2lbs back!

Wtf? How can it be possible to fail at such an easy diet?

I'm having 1 shake for breakfast, 1 for lunch and something like a stirfry, omelette, spagbol for dinner. If I get hungry in the day I have fruit or veg but only a small amount.

I am moderately active during the day.

So what's gone wrong? I could cry this morning after jumping on the scales, I used to be able to drop weight easily but this past year I've just been stuck between a few lbs no matter what I do and it's really getting me down.
I've got a week left of shakes before they're all gone so I'm going to keep going as it seems a shame to waste them but I need to get this weight shifting!

I didn't lose weight until I stopped breastfeeding.

I know it goes against all the stuff about how much calories it burns blah blah but for me it was only when I stopped that the weight went. I felt as if my body was clinging on to the extra weight because of the breastfeeding.

Slim fast shakes contain a lot of sugar so that might be part of the problem?

Also, are you checking your portion sizes when you have "proper food"?

I don't have huge meals for my dinner, I'm logging it all on mfp to keep track.

I wonder if breastfeeding is the issue, I would t mind so much staying to same but I seem to actually be gaining! Hmm

The shakes I'm having aren't slim fast they're a different brand and aren't as high in sugars but I did think with snacking on fruit as well it does tip me over the RDA for sugar.

It baffles me, I'm still the same size clothes, I know I could walk into any shop in town and pull on a pair of size 10 jeans and comfortably do them up, yet the number so. The scales keep rising.

Are you weighing all your food? Are you adding oil to food?

I’ve also gained weight using slimfast, using the 321 system of 3 slimfast snacks, 2 slimfast shakes and 1 evening meal, I think also it could be the sugar content in the shakes and bars. I actually have better success on the Atkins shakes . I found out in the past that my body doesn’t break down sugars so well. I didn’t realise that slimfast has over 30g of sugars in 2 scoops, so I’ll be going low carb again. Some people do better on low carb and some do bette on low fat. For me it’s back to low carb again. You breast feeding actually helps to tighten your stomach muscles and lose weight, I’ve had four children and breast fed 3 of them. Lost weight within 6 weeks that way after birth, but after my fourth child weight Gain with menopause Isn’t helping. Hope you’ve found what works for you. Best wishes Sarah.
Stay safe and well xx
