feeding in public

ds2 has recently become easily distracted when feeding and crys when over tired. He then starts fussing when feeding, think he is also teething (is 19 weeks) and has just had his last imm's.

At times when feeding in public or at a friends I have felt quite uncomfortable as feel that people are looking when baby crying. Then becomes a vicious circle because he picks up i am less than comfortable and gets more upset. I do usually manage to settle him and then he has a good feed and falls to sleep.

I am finding at the moment I am avoiding feeding around others atm and want to just feed him somewhere real quiet. I remember a similar phase with ds1 but cant remeber how long it lasted but i do remember how much it put me off feeding in public. How long does this phase last?

Hi Awen

Mine didnt last too long - DD now 25 weeks. Or rather: she's still massively distracted and pulls off, but doesnt cry anymore, so not attention-grabbing.

What I did was the following:

  • at home I fed her in quiet and ensured she got good feeds
  • out, I chose noisy locations and she seemed to like them and didnt cry (!)

but honestly, the crying bit didnt last long, so don't worry.
HTH!
