Infant feeding

Do you change nappies at night feeds?

Sorry I know that is not strictly a feeding question, but not sure where to post - I suppose it links to feeding in a way...

anyway just wondered how long without a nappy change is too long? dd still waking every 3-4 hrs, so eg last night down at 8.30ish (a one-off miracle i think as she has been cluster feeding, but that's another story!), dreamfeed at 11.30 - so didn't change nappy just put her back down. She woke at 2.30 and I felt bad that she hadn't been changed so changed her then, and then she went back down till 6am. Clearly the holy grail is that she wouldn't wake between the 1st and last feeds there in which case no nappy change anyway - but I feel bad putting her back down when I can feel it's soggy!

wondered what others do?

only if she poos (rare)
but she is in cloth so I just boost to the max

only if they poo! and you can comfort yourself a little that you're putting 1 or 2 less into landfill.

My lovely midwife told me not to, seven years ago. So I didn't

I always check because I hate the thought of putting her down with a wet nappy, can't be good for the skin. Yes it disturbs her a bit but she goes straight back off and she will often take more booby afterwards.

oh yes, should have said i only mean wet nappies, will always change a dirty one!

Liz79 i hate it too! it's silly cos if she slept through it wouldn't get changed. i couldn't get back to sleep last night for feeling guilty after the 11.30 feed!

As soon as mine stopped pooing during the night I stopped changing her, unless of course she was major soggy but theis was rare.

I started off not when doing these dreamfeeds but ds is so unpredictable (sometimes wakes at 3, 4, 5 or 6am!) that I have to as otherwise there are accidents...

I know what you mean about feeling mean not changing, and if they will go back to sleep easily afterwards I don't see why not.

Only for a poo or leak

I always do a sleep change - hate the thought of DD sleeping with a really wet nappy - or leaking and waking her and then me up!

I always change ds3's nappies when he wakes for night feeds. But he's only 6 weeks and if I don't wake him for more milk by changing his nappy he wakes up way too soon for his next feed! When he (hopefully) gets to the stage that he takes enough milk before falling asleep I won't change him.

I only change a night nappy if there's poo in it. Modern nappies hold a fantatic amount of wee and usually do the trick till after breakfast.

I find it's best to do night feeds in a semi zombie state. It makes getting up easier. I need to keep as much energy as possible as havde 3 under 5.

I change ds after the 10pm feed, and then change it no less than 6 hours after this (ds is still waking up during the night) or if he has done a poo.
Again, cloth nappy user so boosting.

I put on a fresh nappy at 6pm
10 pm dream feed - don't change
2am feed - I do change (feeels really soggy then)
6am - don't change
8am - new nappy, clean suit etc.

Obviously do change if he poos.

thanks all! interesting that there doesn't seem to be a general consensus on this one! muffinmclay i'm more or less doing what you do - somehow a nappy change at 2am is easier than at 6, don't know why? also if i change dd at 2am she still goes back to sleep, but if i change her at 6am she decides that the day has started and we have feck all chance of any more sleep!
