My dd is 10 weeks old. She's started to bf very differently in the last few days. Usually she will go for 20 minutes on one breast and I give her the other if she's still hungry. If she's still hungry she has a bit of EBM mixed with formula in a bottle (long history to this - don't ask!)

In the last few days, she has been feeding for a much shorter time and sometimes squirming on the breast. She is also often just holding the nipple in her mouth. She does feed for a longer time sometimes, especially during the night.

She isn't better on the bottle. My dh gives them to her and he says she rejects them quite often now. She likes the breast but doesn't always suck very well.

Should I be worried about this? Could my milk be low? Could it be wind? Is it her gae which means she is changing the way she feeds?

Maybe she has just learnt how to take more , more quickly. They often get more aware of surroundings and distracted at around that age too but very unlikely she is starving herself. How is she otherwise - alert, healthy, wee/poo, weight ? Might even be a sign she is ready to drop the bottles altogether as she is getting enough herself.

We have thought about droppingf the bottles. She's healthy and very, very alert (!)and is gaining weight after a slow start.

She does get easily distracted and often opens her mouth to smile at me, which is cute but frustrating.

If she's rejecting the bottle I would say your milk can't be getting low. Babies do get more efficient as they get older and feeds can get shorter. If she's alert and gaining weight I wouldn't worry.

Im totally paranoid about running out of milk. Is this likely when I've bf for ten weeks? I'm still feeding every between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the baby.

no unless you are substantially substituting b'feeds for formula. Always offer both sides before even thinking about topping up. She may take a bottle because it is like squeezing in pudding after a full meal , you may not need it but it something different. But that in turn could delay /reduce the next feed so affecting your supply in relation to her appetite.

Thanks Lizs. I think you might be right about the pudding thing. She often only takes an ounce. She still never goes more than four hours. Should this be ok?
