Sippy cups and bfing, any recommendations?

A few months ago when DD was younger and I was talking to a bfing counsellor about giving her water the counsellor said she didn't recommend non-spill sippy cups as the action required to suck from them might interfere with the bfing, so I got dd a doidy cup to give her water, which she loves. However it's a bit of a PITA to use and is very messy and she can't feed herself so I am thinking of getting a lidded cup.

I am just wondering if now she is 8 months whether it'll be ok to give her a lidded cup and if anyone has any recommendations?

The basic tommee tippee ones with the flip spout and handles are the ones we have always used - recommended by my bf supporting HV. We never used bottles or non-spill cups either.

We are fans of the Tommee Tippee beakers with a straw instead of sippy cups, although we had the basic Tommee Tippee flip lidded ones for DD1 at the start. I think she was about 9 months when we changed to the straw type (I think they are 9m +) I thought she would struggle to suck from a straw but she loved it.

As for DD2 she has never had a bottle or a sippy cup. As soon as she could move she picked up her sisters cup and drank from it so we got her one.

Do not get one of those Anyways Up no Spill beaker ones they are really difficult to get anything out of (even for an adult) and they really have to suck on them which apparently is bad for teeth.

Straws are supposed to be better as the liquid doesn't have as much contact with teeth (someone may correct me though).

Sweetkitty I think you are right re the straws - the liquid kind of by passes the teeth.

Thank you for the advice, it must have been the anyway up type cups that weren't recommended. I'll just look for a normal one or one with a straw.
