I had mastitis, he said not to feed from that breast as 'the milk will have pus in it'. Luckily I knew better and ignored him, but what if I hadn't?
Now I have thrush which I'm treating with cream and gel. It's been two weeks. Went for six week check, he says to stop treating it. Didn't feel the need to examine me or to ask me any questions about the symptoms, obviously. Told me that a consultant he spoke to recently, a breast surgeon, had never heard of thrush in the breast. I explained that I also have a large crack in the affected breast which isn't healing (another symptom of thrush)and he said that's just because I'm breastfeeding, I should expect to get sore nipples, they aren't meant to be sucked on like that ( what are they meant for then?).
Now, far be it from me to question the wisdom of a member of the medical profession, but seeing this doctor is beginning to feel like a complete waste of my time. He's the only doctor in the practice - what would you do?
