Relieving constipation in a 2 mo

I switched from bf to formula last week (long story) and my dd is suffering a bit with constipation. She only poos every couple of days and in between she strains a lot as though she's trying to pass something unsuccessfully. She looks really uncomfortable - probably not used to the sensation yet.

Any suggestions as to how to relieve it a bit? She turns her nose up at water, though I'm not sure how much she needs to make a difference. Does anybody water down feeds and if so by how much? I'm reluctant to try the brown sugar trick - don't want to start her off on bad habits!

a teaspoon of cooled boiled water before each feed can apparently help.

Also a VERY LITTLE bit of orange juice perhaps half-1 teaspoon
Good luck

pooing every two days is OK though. It's more the consistency of the poo that tells you if she's constipated - should look like paste not pellets when you change a dirty nappy.

I remember DD at that age screwing her face up, going bright read and making terrible straining noises but she wasn't constipated. I think it's just their bowels aren't very well co-ordinated at that age. It's only reading your post that made me realise at some point over the last month she's stopped doing it. I just have to wait for the bad smell and the smug smile now

also the formula you use makes a big difference. IME Aptamil is the one that's easiest to digest. We swapped to that and there was an almighty clear-out within 24 hours

Thanks for the advice. DD had another big poo this morning so hurray! It does look like paste so maybe it's not constipation, maybe she's just getting used to her bowels working. She is on Aptamil and seems to like it.
