help, bleeding cracked nipple - 16 days in to feeding newborn

Is it possible to have thrush in only one nipple. I have one cracked bleeding nipple, which is very very sore. The other is fine. I feel physically sick when i have to feed off the right hand side. Could it be thrush which is preventing it from healing? Latch has been checked by midwife.
dd2 has seen a cranial oesteopath who said she was stiff on one side which would have made it difficult - he said he had eased it. And she can now latch on much better. But it is the cracked and bleeding which is so sore. Help please....

Hi Curvymummy

Well done for getting so far BF!

I'd suggest getting on the phone to the NCT helpline, the BFN helpline or La Leche League helpline for advice.

I'll post more later if no-one else puts up the numbers or advice but bottom line is:

-get your latch sorted again - keep trying different adjustments yourself; best to get specialist BF counsellor support on this if poss

-get your nipples healed: following can help -

Lansinoh or Kamillosan cream - don't need to wash off before feeding: principle is that moist wounds heal faster and better. If they're dry, scabbed skin can form and just get pulled off by baby...

Jelonet (from your pharmacy) applied between feeds can also help healing - same principle as above

lots of other ideas but these are prob your first line of defence...

Just seconding monkebird's msg - get to see a NCT trained bf counsellor asap.

I had cracked nipple with DD even though about 6 midwives said latch was correct

One session with the counsellor and I was on the road to recovery!

Good luck x
