Infant feeding

Can I feed my baby expressed milk if some blood from a cracked nipple got into it?

Hi, plugged ducts here again. In the process of trying to pop the milk blister (this is so gross), my nipple started to bleed. When I expressed from that breast, some of the blood got into the bottle. Can feed the milk from that bottle to my son?

Thanks, all.

Of course

Breastmilk is made from blood, and your baby is nourished by your blood all the way through pregnancy.

There is nothinig harmful in your blood unless you know you have a blood born virus (like HIV or some forms of Hepatitis).

Hope so!

Dd and ds would have nowt without the blood....think of it as added protein.

Just think of it as a strawberry milkshake . I know it feels weird to give it but it really is fine.

My DS has had milk with a bit of blood in it before. Just to warn you that if your son vomits or possets, it might be brown from the blood. Nothing to worry about though.

yes have no worry.
i had cracked nipples with puss sores and still feed. it sounds gross but its still the most natural thing for the baby.
