Breastfeeding and concious sedation?

Hello, I need help if possible. I need to have some dental work but would have concious sedation administered by injection in the arm. The dentist advises against having the work done until I have stopped breastfeeding. DD is only 9 months and I want to carry on for ages yet but dental work needs doning asap. Looked on internet and differing opinions. Has anyone come across this situation before?

hi tired37
I don't know if you are familiar with Kellymom.com but here is what they say about dental procedures and breastfeeding
HTH and doesn't confuse you further!

Have you seen the BfN page on dental treatments?

Thankyou, looks more positive. Will go back to dentist and find out what drug they use and hopefully will not even have to consider stopping.

I'm having Medazolam for a bone graft and implant next month. I've asked for no more than 2mg. I'll feed DS2 (he'll be 10mo) beforehand then wait a couple of hours afterward (total gap should be 4 hours). I think the clearance time is 5 hours (although for this drug it is highly varibale in different people).

bfn are brilliant, and if you have specific question thats not covered than you can email their pharmacist....i am going for a general anesthetic next week and was initially told i couldn't bf my 9mth old for 24hrs. the bfn, and a midwife and NCT bf counsellor have all said i can bf straight away.
