my dd2 is 13 mths old and is currently having enfamil a r formula as she had reflux.

but docs have advised should stop taking it now as over 12 mths old.

ive tried her on cows milk products ie cheese, yoghurt, butter and tiny amts of cows milk in her cereal and she is sick every time.

i dont know what to try . do i try goats milk or soya milk and what happens if she doesnt like it. she is only having 2 bottles a day but she does need some sort of milk replacement.

any help/advice please as hv no help. xxxx

Is your dd seeing a dietician? If so, ask for advice. My dd (10 months) has the same problem. The dietician she sees advised seeing how she got on with soya yoghurt, and she is fine with it, so I am now going to try introducing soya formula. Apparently yoghurt is easier to digest than formula, so you could give it a go that way.

If you are not seeing a dietician, then ask you gp or hv to refer your dd.

My DD 14 months was intolerant to cows milk and is still on a cow's milk free diet.

I saw a dietician when she was about 8 months who advised me against goats milk as contains the same proteins that were causing the problem. I breast fed until 12 months but DD has soya yoghurts and soya milk to drink and soya cheese in sandwiches, pizza etc. She seems to like all of the substitutes and i was advised to re-introduce cm again at 18 months.

I had to push to see the dietician though - one gp told me there was no point i'd have to wait ages and babies were't affected by their mothers diet anyway when breast feeding.

Some soya milks say on carton from 12m, some from 2yrs so be careful which one you try !

thankyou so much for your comments so far.

i will ring gp and get her an appt.

and also i will ask why she cant stay on enfamil a r for longer than 6 mths. she has been on it for 10 mths already.

i have tried her with alpro soya yoghurts but she was sick.

i have bought soya milk and goats milk today to try.

but ive just read that the so called unsweetned soya milk is sweetned with apple juice which also makes her sick.

so i will just try the goats milk i will put a little bit in her porridge in the morning.

I would try and get her tested and stop any additional dairy if its making her sick. Ds2 is allergic to dairy and we were advised by his consultant against soymilk until he turns 2 because of the sugars and question mark about long term effect as soy has phytoestrogens. We were advised to try nutramigen then move on to rice milk with added calcium or oat milk with added calcium, were also given a prescription for calcium sandoz from his dietician to give on days he did not have much calcium intake.

Playmobil, I'm interested that your dietician suggested rice or oat milk - the one I'm seeing hasn't mentionned those as an option. I may need to rethink the soya thing, as dd threw up spectacularly after having a soya yoghurt at lunch time (she has been under the weather any way, but this was reflux-y projectile vomitting).

hi just to let u know dd2 is ok with goats milk i have now fully changed her over to it and she isnt sick.

also she is ok with goats milk yoghurt.

i took her to the doctor who adv as she is ok on goats milk no need to refer her to a dietician and she will be getting enough calcium in the milk not to warrant having supplements.

he did say to keep trying cows milk in the future, which i will as goats milk is so expensive.
