Infant feeding

re-starting b/feeding after 3 month break

Hello. Stopped b/feeding in Feb due to illness now wondering if I can re-start by using the breast pump and seeing if it will stimulate the milk to start up a bit. Still got a tiny bit of milk if I squeeze my boobs. It would be nice to give my 6 month old a bit of mummy milk again as he's got excema and I'm sure it would do him some good. Anyone else tried it?

Meglet - you have nothing to lose

The only really effective way you can bring back your milk is by frequent removal of milk - if your baby will co-operate by coming to the breast often, that's great, but he might have forgotten and need lots of opportunities to remember. You will need to pump at least 8 x in 24 hours including at night while you are bringing it back - check out relactation here and on the web.

Good luck

oooh, 8 sessions in one day is a bit more than I had been planning. Maybe I need to investigate this a bit more! Baby never liked breastfeeding so I doubt he'll help much . I'll have a look on the web though. Was rather lamely hoping I could just stick the breast pump on in the evening to see if it got it going after a while. Only think I could manage it once a day. Might start up after bank holiday weekend away. Will report back when I have had a go!

Well you've certainly got nothing to lose - give it a go and see what happens

You may not get to exclusive BF without the constant pumping, etc but any milk has got to be a good thing.

Meglet - I know, it is a lot!!

One expressing a day will produce a little milk, though, but it will dwindle.

My bet is that you will get a few ml at a time, for a while only...but of course your baby can have that few ml. Also try him on the breast direct and see what happens

Hiya, I am new to the site but fortunately this is a topic I wanted advice for. I currently breastfeed in the morning but from 3 months my babs has had formula, I am wanting to increase my milk supply so that I am able to feed her for most of the day.
Meglet, how have you been getting on?
