Infant feeding

bf experts - numerous questions

Well, after a fruitless attempt at getting some help from my hv, I have a few questions for all you bf experts.
DS is just over 6 months, and started weaning (food) 3 weeks ago. Still demand breastfed. Now on 3 big meals per day ( he is a big 21 lb fella).
Now, I have never fed past 6 months so this is all new terratory for me.
He still feeds 3 times per night, and not just comfort, but 15 min feeds. He seems to be dropping day feeds rather than night - is this normal? hv suggests a bottle of formula before bed, but not going to do that at this point. Also, 1 month ago he eventually got his tongue tie snipped and I can feel the difference in his feeding, much stronger and deeper feeling, but since then he has been really sicky. Thinking it is probably just overfeeding/greed , so he feeds for same amount of time, but more effectively ??
Secondly we have an ongoing battle with thrush. He constantly has oral thrush, then on bottom a few days after daktarin gel. I am not aware of deep thrush, but presume I must have it for him to keep getting it so bad. Roof of his mouth looks so sore. Any ideas?
Just come away from docs with more daktarin but doc says I would be in severe pain with deep breast thrush, so wont treat me?
Feel like a beginner again with all these questions
Thanks for getting this far, x

they feed at night more because there i more prolactin in milk between 2 and 5 in the morning and because they are'nt having solids in between so I would say this was normal

I know nothing about thrush though sorry so I hope this will bump it up for you

sorry I can't help with the thrush issue. However, my ds was like this at 6 months. I'm not sure whether he grew out of needing night feeds or whether it was any stratedgies I put into place. I used to give ds a weetabix or some porridge before he went to bed and when he was awake a bit more in the day (he is now 11.5 months) I gave him snacks which seemed to help. His early morning feed has now moved from 5ish to 6-6.30 most mornings. I still breastfeed 3 times a day and have not felt the need to introduce a formula feed at bedtime. Hope this helps

Bella - are you treating your nips with the daktarin too?

When ds had oral thrush the hv prescribed daktarin for me too even though I had no symptoms, she said otherwise we could be passing it back and forth. Can you get a second opinion from another doctor?

bella, a lot of Qs

Best to speak to someone about all of this, sorry.

The night feeding is certainly on the norml spectrum - if you are ok with it, there's nothing wrong. The sickiness may have something to do with him taking in a bit more now his TT has been 'done', as you suggest.

Doc shd be persuaded to treat you as well - see Breastfeeding Network's leaflet on this, on the web.

Hope things settle down.
