Infant feeding

breastfeeding whilst taking citalopram - did it affect baby?

I have been on citalopram for the pregnancy, and have been advised by one doc not to bf between 3-9 hours after taking the tablet to minimise jumpiness etc. I am stuck out here in Germany, so cannot get another opinion as he was the 'top bloke', so to speak, so I am interested to know if anyone else who was on this has been advised the same, and if not, did you notice any difference in feeding after taking the tablets? It just seems to me that it will be more difficult to get my milk going if I am mixed feeding from the start. (I am 39 weeks pg, btw)

Hi, I breastfed my dd when taking citalopram and was advised that it was fine to breastfeed whilst taking it without leaving an interval before feeding. I didn't notice any adverse effects in my baby. If you have a look at Kellymom then it says that it should be used with caution and the baby watched for side effects. (It's known as Celexa in the US)

Apparently Zoloft is the drug of choice for bf mothers (also known as Sertraline and Lustral)

I know, but my doc says the potential effects of changing drugs at this stage are too uncertain, but thanls very much for replying and for the link - I will look at it.
