Hello,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
My 8 week old baby girl, has started being violently sick after some feeds - approx once to twice a day.
She generally feeds well -4-5oz for most feeds but does seem to have some symptoms of reflux including coughing and sneezing a lot.

She seems to take most feeds fine although burping her can be quite hard work. I make sure she takes regular breaks to burp her but just on the occasional feed, she is so very sick!
I took her to the doctors yesterday who has told me she seems fine and that maybe she is over feeding but trying to restrict her feeds to just four ounces proved traumatic and she became very distressed.

One thing I noticed tonight - my husband fed her at 6pm then she seemed really unsettled at 7:15 - started with all the hunger signs and became very very distressed when I didn't give her a bottle. In the end I made her one and she seemed to fall asleep as soon as she started drinking but as soon as I put her down or out her near my chest, she became distressed for the bottle again so the feed took longer than usual.
Unfortunately, this then ended up with her vomitting violently.
I really don't know what to do. The doctor said I could maybe try her on reflux formula but I don't want to do that if that isn't the problem.
Feel really upset for her :(

It's relatively normal to have some vomiting, and a little goes a long way! I would try to keep her up right after feeds for at long as possible, certainly 20 mins at least. You could try infacol to help her burp more readily. I'd only change milk as a last resort, it can constipate them and I'm not sure how effective it really is.

The 7.15 thing may well be "colic" which often starts at this age. The wanting to feed frequently in the evening is totally normal, it's called cluster feeding and in BF babies is their way of keeping up the milk supply. Just go with it. I also found that a baby sling really helped get through these evenings.

This phase sounds pretty typical for the age your baby is, and will pass pretty fast. All 3 of mine have done exactly as you describe and grew out of it. The younger 2 did have reflux meds, one had silent reflux which made every feed a screaming night mare, and one vomited all day every day to the point the acid was burning his face.

Thank you, it's reassuring to know that many babies go through this. I'll keep using the Infacol and see how we go.
