Infant feeding

Reflux or fast let down or over supply??

I have had a really settled baby for last two weeks but last few days he has started being more sick. My dd had bad reflux so I am paranoid it's all starting with DS. My milk does come out really fast and he does choke and gulp a lot. Could this cause reflux symptoms? He is also getting uncomfortable after feeds. I have tried block feeding for last two days but not noticed a difference yet? When would I notice any difference if this works? Any advice as to what to do as starting to think giving up breastfeeding maybe better.

Do you want to give up Bfing LJH? If not, I'd ring one of the Bfing Helplines. Has he been checked for tongue tie too? It can be very difficult to tell which is bothering him over t'internet Smile

No don't really want to give up but boobs now both feel very bruised and sore. Just feels one problem after another. He has a tongue tie which hospital wouldn't do but lactation consultant has referred us back but not sure when they will do it. Have looked into paying but it's £100 and not sure how much difference it'll make. They've said its about 50% tongue tie.

It does sound like the tt could be playing a part in all of this. Is there a local BFC you could talk to?

Have you tried expressing a tiny bit before each feed? It works for us! Otherwise he gulps air & ends up screaming in pain and spitting up - if I express first hes fine (but not much or it just stimulates supply and makes the problem worse)

Get the tt done. It makes such a massive difference. They take in much less air as they can get a better seal on the breast. All three of mine have had tt to various degrees and the difference a week after the op is amazing. Takes no time. Crotchety baby for a day or two but after that, it definitely improved. I would be wary of diagnosing anything else until the TT was dealt with as it has so many knock on effects
