I'm 25 weeks pregnant and for the majority of my pregnancy I've developed a sort of green/yellow crust on one nipple. I'm sorry to say that the closet thing is resembles is a bogey! It doesn't hurt, but if I pick at it there's raw, pink, cracked skin beneath, almost like an open graze - but not painful at all. I've never had it before and I was hoping it would have gone away by now!

Is it just dry skin? Or does it sound like an infection or something that would interfere with my ability to nurse? I'm a first timer so sorry if this is a daft question Grin

That sounds unusual. Have you shown it to the GP or midwife? Is the nipple tender or itchy?

Where is the crusty bit? Is it on the nipple, or on the areola?

It's normal to leak colostrum in pregnancy. Colostrum can be green, although it's more commonly yellow.

I had loads of yellow crusty stuff. It's colostrum. If it's definitely green though mention to your midwife.

I also had lots of orange crusty stuff that I had never had before. As Christelle says, it was colostrum. Like you I picked it off one day in the shower and there was no pain. It's probably nothing to worry about if it's not painful even when removed, and I very much doubt it would cause problems while breastfeeding. But I second mentioning to your midwife if it is worrying you. They're there to put your mind at ease!
