Infant feeding

4 week old ebf baby slept through

I don't mean this to sound like a stealth boast honestly!

My dd was 4 weeks yesterday, ebf on demand. She cluster feeds all evening and usually wakes at 3ish to feed.

Last night she went down at 9.30 after cluster feeding for a few hours and then I woke at 6 hearing her rooting. I couldn't believe it.

I know it's likely a one off but I'm totally freaked out by it! What will happen to my supply?

Should I start setting an alarm to wake her?

I've not had her weighed since day 10 (back over birth weight after loosing 7% on hospital discharge) was going to clinic at the end of this week. She has plenty of heavy wet nappies, at least 6 daily.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a very content baby, keep it up. But don't expect another full nights sleep any time soon :)

Thank you! Yes probably a one-off but it totally surprised me!

This baby is just so different to what her big sister was!

At 4 weeks one of mine consistently slept 12-6, and by 6 weeks was sleeping 7-7 the other 2 never did it

Meant to say she was ebf too

Don't worry- it'll be a one-off. DS did that occasionally- I think they do it just to get your hopes up and remind you what it can be like!

Sounds very similar to my DD who's 15 weeks now - we got the odd sleep through around then which started increasing by 7-8 weeks and she has slept through from 8pm to around 5.30-6am since 11-12 weeks, except for one night over the last weekend, when she woke twice, and of course the morning we had to be at 6pm!!! She's EBF and feeds loads in the day :)

We did wake her up for a feed at around 2ish for a couple of nights during the heatwave the other week but otherwise just enjoy the sleep!!!

Thanks so much for the reassurance, it's crazy, we worry when they dont sleep and worry when they do!

She's making up for it today though! She's been attached all morning feeding!

I would set an alarm, 9 hours without a feed isn't brat at 4 weeks.

My ebf 6 week old slept from 8-8 one time. I was beside myself with worry. Don't think she did it again until she was about two. Maybe three. Years, not months.

Mine did that once, literally once!!

If it makes you feel better at 6months she hasn't woken less than three times a night since Grin

Ha ha - yes that will make her more like her big sister if it's a one off!

This happens to us occasionally - DC is 10 weeks. I figure as she's bf on demand I feed when she wants but don't wake her to feed when she doesn't. I wake with massively engorged boobs but that's the only downside!

Don't worry - mine did his first night (11-6) at 3 weeks, then he didn't do it again till about 6 weeks, and since then he's pretty much going from 10.30 - after 6am nearly every night, though he's a noisy sleeper (snores like a pig) so I'm waking around 4-5am!

My dd1 did it this at 5 weeks - and it wasn't a once-off. By the time she was 8 weeks old she would sleep for 13 hours (although she did not nap in the day).

I was smug. Very smug. So you'll be pleased to know that dd1 turned into the non sleeper from hell the moment she had her second birthday.

My mum takes great delight in telling -anyone who'll listen- me that three out of her four EBF girls slept through from very early on.

My EBF DD slept through consistently from 12 weeks. Sadly not so lucky with my DS who at 6 months still feeds twice a night. It could be worse though! Long may it continue for you Smile
